Advance Directive/Living Will (Power of Attorney for Health Care)

Serving Clients in Miami and the Surrounding Area

The advance directive, or more commonly called a living will, has the dual purpose of appointing an agent to make health care decisions for you if you are unable to make them yourself and expressing your preferences regarding artificial life support in the event of a terminal end-stage condition or persistent vegetative state. Advance directives are particularly important in the face of privacy laws that make it difficult for friends and family members to access your medical records or obtain medical information on your behalf.

Along with this important legal document, at Estate Counsel we also draft an Authorization for Release of Protected Health Information (HIPAA release). This allows your agent to receive your health records so they can act in your best interest and execute the power of attorney for health care.
